What Will Oprah’s First Tweet Be About?

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

TechCrunch reports that Oprah will be on Twitter tomorrow posting her very first tweet LIVE on her show.

In honor of this momentous event, MomFaves will be giving away the official MomFaves Tote and T-shirt to the mom who most closely predicts what Oprah’s first tweet will be. Simply leave a comment below with your answer AND then tweet it to @MomFaves. Please include the hashtag #oprahtweets in your tweet so the conversation on Twitter can be tracked. The lucky person will be announced here Monday.

No matter how you feel about Oprah, this news marks a huge milestone for the folks who own Twitter - and they know it. Twitter CEO Evan Williams dropped this hint when he wrote this tweet yesterday, “Tomorrow just became a very big day. (Sorry for the teaser — more later.)” Today, the company is most likely doing everything possible to prepare for what could be the most new twitter traffic ever in a single day.

MomFaves is excited about the event too because of how many new moms will be introduced to Twitter and be entering the social media age as a result of Oprah’s influence. Because of Twitter, MomFaves and founders @joshunfried and @rebeccaunfried have met and tweeted with thousands of new mom friends and momfaves fans (yes, ya’ll know who you are!).

The benefits and uses of being a mom on twitter are many. Social media tools like Twitter, social networks like Facebook and (yes) even our very own mom word-of-mouth network (TM), MomFaves.com are used and enjoyed everyday by moms.

If you’re a mom who decides to join Twitter after witnessing or learning of the historic tech event tomorrow, here are Five Ways To Find Moms On Twitter.

By the way, this post and giveaway is in no way connected to or affiliated with Oprah (but you knew that already, right?).

Don’t forget to follow @MomFaves for the latest “Why Moms Matter” and “What Moms Love Most” updates!

Now…let’s see those guesses!

Show us Why Moms Matter…

Joshs mom weeks before she died from cancer with her first grandbaby.

Josh's mom just before she died from cancer with her first grandbaby.

Message From MomFaves Founder

My mom passed away from cancer 4 yrs ago and it’s the little things I miss most about her …birthday cards, phone calls, laughing together, not seeing her to play with her grandchildren, her hands and other ordinary reminders of her strong presence in my life. I’m sure most of you moms who love photography have favorite memories of the little things your mom did for you when we were growing up, or maybe you are a mom who matters yourself.

MomFaves is going to showcase the unique little things moms do that make a difference in our lives–which will be conveyed through your photos and a brief description.

We want you to submit photographs of these little moments you think define WHYMOMSMATTER to be used in both a promotional video for the MomFaves ~ WhyMomsMatter Project as well as the accompanying E-Book highlighting dozens of nominations of the most ordinary, extraordinary moms out there.

This EBook will be given away for free near Mother’s Day– because we think moms deserve all the credit in the world.

The crew from www.momfaves.com and www.extraordinarymommy.com will be deciding on the winning photographs. All photos selected will credit you for your work. Good luck and thank you for helping us to prove Moms Matter.

Meet Sandi Brown ~ Why Moms Matter Award

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Sandi Brown Matters!

A Family Meant To Be

Sandi Brown feels like her family of 6  is ‘ordinary’.  She calls them a family made of love. Friend Meg DeZutti thinks Sandi and her family are anything but ordinary.  So, Meg nominated Sandi to be a Mom Who Matters, giving the rest of us a chance to know this extraordinary woman.

Meg describes Sandi as a “fantastic wife to a loving husband and an amazing play-down-on-the-floor-after-reading-the-same-book-for-the-15th-time mom.”

But the road to having their current family has been a long one.

About 6 years ago, while undergoing fertility treatments that, for some time, had been unsuccessful, Sandi and her husband began the process of domestic adoption.  It was at this time that Sandi’s fertility and adoption journeys fit together like puzzle pieces.  Sandi’s very last cycle of fertility treatments were successful - she was pregnant.  A mere 3 months later, they were given the name of a woman who was looking to give her babyup for adoption.  Knowing Sandi’s past pregnancies had been volatile, they decided to try both.

On October 17, 2003, Sandi and her husband were in the delivery room as Kimberly was born.  They adopted her and were allowed to take her home within 24 hours. A mere 12 days later, on October 29th, Sandi went in to labor and gave birth to Annie.  Two beautiful baby girls - both healthy - both theirs.

Sandi believed at the time that Kimberly and Annie were the only children she would ever have.  But more miracles were in the works - Sandi got pregnant again and even carried Madeline to term.  She is now almost 4 years old.

The newest edition to their family - Paul - was adopted from Ethiopia.  Sandi believes with all her heart that they were all meant to be a family.  She says adoption has been the most amazing thing in her life.

Why Sandi Matters…

In addition to making her family her number one priority, Sandi has a blog and an Etsy store where she sells quilts.  She is also, clearly, a wonderful friend.  In her nomination letter, Meg said, “She finds time for those around her. She always seems to know when I’m feeling defeated by the adoption process and calls or texts to cheer me up. Sandi is extraordinary just by being herself.”

When asked how she balances it all, Sandi explains, “I enjoy every moment.  I don’t have a sparkling clean home and it is full of clutter, but my children are cared for and valued.  I live by the saying, ‘Do something you love each day.’”

Clearly, Sandi loves being a Mom.  And that matters.
